Constructed in 1922 and registered as Category 1 on the New Zealand Historic Places Register
Opus Architecture teamed with Opus Structural Engineers to sensitively refurbish and earthquake strengthen the building.
The church's stunning neo-baroque style makes a strong impression. The original ornate detailing on the exterior was carefully retained and refurbished, the roof was completely replaced and structural bracing was installed.
The interior was in poor condition with water damage to historic horse hair plasterwork. All was meticulously repaired and restored to return the church to its former glory.
The church is a very attractive venue and it is said that its acoustics are among the best in Wellington. A new stage was constructed to improve the space for performances.
